While some politicians discussed their appetite to regulate the wireless industry on Capitol Hill today, I was doing a little mobile broadcasting. Jules Allen joined me for the impromptu session.

Paul Hurst joined us live via chat and he describes the mobile revolution.

Here’s an archive of the clip – enjoy!

I’m up in New York for business but had a few hours to run over to the Nokia store and I picked up an N95!

I cannot wait to join the revolution and I look forward to using the N95 to capture some action at CTIA’s show in a few weeks!

UPDATE (Tuesday night) – I’m absolutely loving this device.  I was recently approved to join all the fun with qik and live mobile broadcasting – here’s the clip

Thank you to Andrew Wright (CEO, Grasshopr) for pointing to this article on Twitter yesterday.

The article via techPresident takes a look at the long tail of politics and how Obama has captured it… As I have mentioned in the diner, this will affect advocacy and how policy is made on Capitol Hill too.

On a related note, I recall a conversation with a former colleague of mine and her husband last year. I was discussing Chris Anderson’s book (The Long Tail) and he mentioned his concern with the long tail of politics. I see incredible opportunities ahead…

What do YOU think about the long tail of politics?

I didn’t even notice but yesterday we served up our 200th dish.

Not such a big deal. However, what I have learned from you and the new friends I’ve met along the way have me excited about the road ahead!

In any case, a mobile diner regular sent me this article on Yahoo. The article takes a look at the M&A deals the company has executed over the years. I’m not going to get started on this company. I’ll just say expect an HBR case study in the future.

Additional notes -

Please send me interesting articles or information about companies in the industry. If they are helping push the upcoming wireless revolution – I want to know about them and want YOUR thoughts about them.

As always, you can reach me via email – chris(at)mobilediner.com

The wireless industry is the platform for participation. Together we will make a difference!

As the primary dust clears from Tuesday night, one not so obvious fact occurred to me. The House Wireless Caucus Chairs will not be around next cycle.

Congressman Al Wynn (Maryland) and Congressman Chip Pickering (Mississippi) are the current chairs of the wireless caucus and have served admirably in that capacity since the coalition launched in September 2000. However, Mr. Wynn lost in Maryland and Mr. Pickering is retiring at the end of this Congress. Continue Reading »

The 700 MHz auction is slowing down and Congress is having more DTV hearings. I’ve got some other thoughts cooking… Enjoy!

Evolve or Die -

The WSJ had an opinion column discussing the dramatic shift occurring in traditional advertising. As we’ve discussed in the diner, this is the new politic too.

Building Community -

In one of my social networks yesterday, a few folks were discussing what they should do with some old cellphones. Specifically, they were interested in getting the phones to some shelters for women of abuse. Accordingly, I pointed the person to CTIA’s Wireless Foundation and a great program they lead – Call to Protect. Continue Reading »

Apple and CTIA and General and GoogleChris on 11 Feb 2008 09:39 am

The Mobile World Congress kicks off today in Barcelona and is the place to be in wireless this week. Unfortunately, I’m stuck here in the diner but I know many from our community are at the show and I look forward to hearing their perspectives from Spain.

On that note, Google is showing off the Android platform at the event. I am very jealous and hope there will be some demos at CTIA’s show in Vegas.

As I have mentioned, Google has changed the wireless industry. Whether or not they are successful in the 700 MHz is irrelevant. Google, in many ways (along with Apple), has propelled the whole industry forward – and consumers’ dreams about wireless too.

The next revolution is wireless and I can’t think of a more exciting time to be involved with the industry…

General and Social Networking and social mediaChris on 07 Feb 2008 11:17 am

Just got back from Busboys & Poets and a large social media breakfast hosted by Jeff Pulver.  As always, great catching up with Jeff and I was glad he was able to find a charged up battery for his N95!

The place was rocking and it was great to see and talk with so many local bloggers and entrepreneurs. Overall, a lot of discussion about wireless and a few folks were broadcasting the action from their phones. It was awesome…

A few highlights from this am:

Briefly caught up with Ann Bernard who has launched a mobile social networking tool – “Why Go Solo.” I am hoping to interview Ann as she moves through the alpha stage and wish her luck.

Great seeing DC Media Makers Jill Foster and Jonny Goldstein. DC Media Maker Andy Carvin gave me the scoop on some digital projects they are working on at NPR. He also showed me how to call into an NPR news story and hear it over mobile. Andy and I both share an interest in technology advancing many causes and it was good to talk with him about the role wireless can play in making a difference to bridge the divide.

Jimmy Gardner is on the verge of launching a new company. He covers a lot of tech on his blog and it was nice meeting him.

Jeff Hibbard is a very passionate videoblogger and he is doing a bunch of mobile videoblogging. I am hoping to get him in the diner soon!

Once again, it was a great morning. Fun to be in an atmosphere where folks are passionate about technology and wireless….
