The district of communications is buzzing about the primaries and we still got a long way to go until November (too long). However, there are some exciting things going on in wireless and I’m getting fired up for the CTIA show in Vegas.

On that note, I had the pleasure of speaking with David Marcus (CEO, Echovox) before the show. His passion for wireless and about our mobile future is second to none.

In any case, he wanted to give diners a taste of his new creation… Without further adieu, (in my Jack Black voice) I give you ZONG -

Zong (based out of Redwood City, CA) allows folks to monetize their web properties and audiences via mobile. ZONG’s open platform facilitates what was once a complicated and often ignored (due to different handsets, networks etc) market. They are also working with all the major carriers on this initiative.

David articulated that “mobile can be the best monetization route for web startups.” I share his enthusiasm and he discussed the key differentiation. “In mobile, subconsciously, you pay for stuff.” As opposed to the web model, where you offer a free product and you monetize by building an audience and selling ads.

In any case, I’m glad David is out there talking about the mobile opportunity. I frequently attend web conferences and when I ask a CEO about their mobile strategy – in many instances, there isn’t one. Hopefully, that’s going to change with Zong…

Dish Disclosures -

I have no financial interest in Echovox or Zong…
